15  -  Interpreting Rock Art Scenes / Interpretando cenas de Arte Rupestre

Session Organizers: Mavis Greer (USA), John Greer (USA), Leslie
Zubieta (Mexico and South Africa)

Abstract: Association between figures within a rock art panel can be  analyzed relative to raw material, application method, application  manner, style, proximity, and arrangement. From association, it is  possible to consider how figures relate to each other as part of an
integrated scene. Scene interpretation has the potential to provide  better understanding of the function of the panel or site than do  individual figures. This session explores approaches in interpreting  rock art scenes and how scenes can imply purpose in rock art.
